So, I’m sure everyone’s heard of Jenny Hyun by now.

dank-potion:

I am not even going to address these insanely atrocious string of tweets, because there is so much ugliness and hate embedded in them that there’s virtually nothing I can say to counteract it.

I will say this, however.

Every time there is bigotry on Tumblr (in the world at large, in fact), we (Black People) are always the first to make notice of it, even if it’s at the hands of our own. We don’t hesitate, to “collect our people” if you will. Issa Rae makes inflammatory remarks toward Asian Americans, it sparks controversy, we nipped it in the bud. People call Islam oppressive, we point out how other religions (even our own) who practice the same traditions are never scrutinzed. Obama deports 500,000 immigrants (the majority of them Latino), we call it out and question his Dream Act. I can go on forever, but the point is, we see bullshit, we call it out, no matter who its from, no questions asked.

In light of this Jenny Hyun situation, however, I’ve been noticing a different trend. We are being asked to get over it. This woman shamelessly called for the mass extermination of the Black Race .. and the response? Oh well, too bad, you guys are sensitive anyways. Now, I’ve seen my fair share of anti-black PoC, but this has got the worst case of it.

The Black Race is constantly shat on, by everyone. Anytime, there is a problem amongst PoC in general, who’s the scapegoat? Anytime an issue in America arises, who’s the worst off? Anytime there’s a controversial political situation (this, or this, and this), who’s oppression is exploited for the political agenda of someone else, even though, we’re told to get over it any other time? Even after all of this, Black people are always expected to kneel over for the benefit of someone else.

Now my question is, even with all the anti-blackness that goes around in the PoC community, why do we feel obligated to come to the aid of ignorance that has no bearing on us? Why do we, unquestionably the lowest of the racial/ethnic hierarchy in White Supremacist America exhaust our patience and resources for people who refuse to afford us the same consideration? The only time I’ve seen collective solidarity among PoC is when non-Black PoC’s injustices are the focus. There is no universal outcry for the cruelty against Black People and frankly, I’m tired of looking out for people who don’t do it for me.

Bolded part by me for emphasis.

I really can’t wrap my head around it. When I clicked the link to her tweets I was expecting the average stereotypical dribble, so imagine my surprise when I see her practically saying ‘The world would be so much better without Black people… we have to amputate the weak link of the body…” like I was so appalled. And now I’m being told to just “get over it”? The fuck.

Priorities, tumblr, fix them.
